On the 13th of October, the whole consortium consisting of 21 partners, came together virtually for the official MIRELAI (MIcroelectronics RELiability driven by Artificial Intelligence) kick-off meeting. This was an excellent opportunity to get to know each other and define the project governance structure.
Our Project Coordinator, Dr. Peter Fuchs from The Polymer Competence Center Leoben GmbH (PCCL) in Austria welcomed the invited representatives. Dr. Fuchs explained the role of MIRELAI in training the next generation of scientists who will introduce a new level of efficiency into the development of innovative and reliable microelectronic systems within a European value chain. He emphasised that from projects funded under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks (DN) call in 2021, MIRELAI industrial doctorate programme is the only one that addresses AI-supported design for microelectronics reliability. This is a great opportunity for the consortium to build a network of cross-disciplinary experts and at the same time a crucial challenge within a huge industry field.
Following the welcome and introduction session, all participants presented their roles and responsibilities within the project with special attention given to the recruitment, supervision and training activities of 13 Doctoral Candidates (DCs). As the focus is on the recruitment strategy and daily management process at this stage of the project, the consortium reviewed the EC requirements and good practices very carefully. This includes reference documents like guidance and manuals, website and other communication channels.
After many insightful presentations and fruitful discussions, the MIRELAI consortium is excited about the start of the project journey and looks forward to collaborating in the coming four years.
